About the Program

BrYet is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on the research and development of curative cancer therapeutics based on innovative silicon technology. Our Houston-based research team conducts preclinical and translational research supporting the development and evaluation of novel therapeutic candidates that target molecular transport phenotypes in the tumors of the lung and liver.

BrYet offers project-based internship opportunities for motivated students interested in gaining hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology corporate environment. Our internship program is designed to provide students with exposure to real-world scientific applications while contributing to projects that support BrYet’s ongoing research and development activities.

The internship program is open to qualified undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students seeking practical research experience within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Interns are assigned to projects based on their educational background, scientific interests, experience, current company research priorities, and project availability. Each intern works under the guidance of members of BrYet’s scientific team and is expected to actively contribute to their assigned project.

This is an on-site internship based in Houston, Texas. Applicants must currently reside in the Greater Houston area OR be able to independently maintain a local presence for the duration of the internship.

Potential Research Areas

Depending on current research needs and the intern’s background and interests, projects may involve areas such as:

• Pharmaceutical formulation development and optimization
• Physics-based tumor transport targeting
• Small molecule drugs and biologics
• Silicon technology and nanoporous silicon microparticles
• Materials chemistry and drug conjugation
• Pharmaceutical analysis
• Cancer biology research involving various cancer types and models
• Cell-based assays and experimental characterization
• Pharmacological evaluation of therapeutic candidates
• Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and scientific documentation
• Literature review and evaluation of relevant scientific research
• In vivo studies in animal models, when applicable to the assigned project and appropriate to the intern’s training and interests
• Other research activities supporting BrYet’s ongoing R&D programs

Specific projects and responsibilities will vary depending on the intern’s level of education, prior laboratory experience, scientific interests, project availability, and the needs of the R&D team.

Preferred Qualifications

Competitive applicants should demonstrate:

• Strong interest in biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, cancer research, or translational science
• Relevant academic coursework and/or laboratory experience
• Ability to follow laboratory procedures & scientific protocols carefully and consistently
• Strong attention to detail and accurate scientific documentation
• Ability to receive and apply feedback from scientific mentors
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team
• Reliability, accountability, and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities
• Commitment to maintaining laboratory safety, cleanliness, organization, and research integrity

Previous research or laboratory experience is preferred; however, the level of experience expected may vary based on the applicant’s academic level and the requirements of available projects.

Internship Expectations

Interns selected for the program are expected to:

• Maintain a consistent and agreed-upon on-site schedule
• Participate actively in their assigned research project
• Follow laboratory safety requirements, research procedures, and company policies
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete laboratory records and documentation
• Properly handle and care for laboratory equipment, materials, and company resources
• Maintain a clear and organized laboratory workspace
• Communicate experimental issues, safety concerns, errors, equipment problems, or unexpected results promptly to their scientific mentor
• Attend applicable research meetings, training sessions, and internship activities
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, curiosity and respect for colleagues
• Accept constructive feedback and demonstrate continued growth throughout the internship
• Complete assigned project deliverables and appropriately close out ongoing work at the conclusion of the internship
• Present or summarize their work and findings when requested by the scientific team

Project-Based Internship Structure

BrYet internships are structured around defined scientific projects rather than general laboratory observation. Interns are expected to develop an understanding of the scientific purpose of their project, contribute to experimental activities, maintain appropriate documentation, and communicate their progress with their scientific mentor.

Project scope and complexity will be tailored to the intern’s academic level, previous experience, demonstrated capabilities, and the needs of the research team.

Because BrYet accepts applications throughout the year, internship opportunities are dependent upon current project availability, scientific mentorship capacity, laboratory needs, and the applicant’s qualifications and availability.

Location Requirement

This internship is conducted on-site at BrYet’s Houston, Texas location. Applicants must reside in the Greater Houston area or independently arrange their ability to be physically present in Houston for the duration of the internship. This is not a remote internship opportunity.
